The California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) is pleased to announce the successful acquisition of Omega Biosystems Inc., a startup company in the CNSI Incubator, by a global medical technology company.
Omega Biosystems, Inc. is a life science tools company that was established to develop and commercialize fluorescence imaging optical technology for its application in the field of flow cytometry.
The company, which joined the Incubator in 2015, is one of 22 startup companies in the Incubator, which offers entrepreneurs a unique opportunity to grow their businesses at CNSI by providing incubator space and access to a range of core research facilities, equipment, and lab space to startups that are developing UCLA technologies.
“CNSI is one of four or five locations in Southern California that is able to offer a wet lab incubator space to startup companies,” said Brian Benson, Director of Entrepreneurship & Commercialization at CNSI. “This is crucial for startups and provided the necessary space and access to shared resources that Omega Biosystems needed for their success.”
When asked about the Incubator Program and how it helped to launch his company, Eric Diebold, President of Omega Biosystems, Inc. said, “The CNSI Incubator provided an incredible helping hand in getting our company off the ground. Besides the flexible and convenient laboratory space, our time in the incubator allowed us to interact with and learn from other companies navigating the same challenging process as we were. Having other entrepreneurs working through similar issues only a few feet away allowed us to continually bounce ideas back and forth, which provided an exceptional environment for encouraging mutual success.”
Members of the Incubator also enjoy access to a network comprised of faculty and scientists from the schools of engineering, physical sciences, life sciences, and medicine. In addition, occupants also have opportunities to engage with various industrial partners through CNSI events, showcases, and collaborations.
Diebold went on to say, “The incubator’s access to various events and startup showcases, often occurring in the same building, also provided us with a very powerful way to get our company noticed by many potential investors and strategic partners, which was extremely helpful in enabling us to achieve our goals.”
