November 27, 2018 | CNSI members on Clarivate Analytics list of Highly Cited Researchers
Meghan Steele Horan and Nikki Lin | November 27, 2018
Twelve CNSI faculty members are among the most influential scientists in their fields for 2018, as determined by Clarivate Analytics.
The organization’s latest Highly Cited Researchers list names nearly 6,000 scientists from around the world whose studies were among the top 1 percent most referenced in academic journals.
The list celebrates contemporary research achievement in 21 fields across the sciences and social sciences. Selection is based on the number of citations over the course of the last 11 years for papers indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection, a curated compilation of over 20,000 peer-reviewed, high-quality scholarly journals published worldwide in over 250 disciplines.
The methodology also includes Essential Science Indicators, which reveal emerging science trends as well as influential individuals, institutions, papers, journals and countries to limit the disadvantage of recently-published papers relative to older ones, and to include early- and mid-career scientists who may have fewer papers published.
This year, Clarivate introduced a new cross-field category to identify researchers with substantial influence across several fields in the last decade to ensure that researchers who publish across various disciplines are honored for their multi-disciplinary achievements.
CNSI faculty members and researchers who were named to the list, noted with their primary UCLA affiliations and Clarivate field, are listed below. Professor Yang Yang was one of only 24 researchers internationally to be acknowledged for citations in three different fields.
Xiangfeng Duan, chemistry and biochemistry (materials science)
Kendall Houk, organic chemistry (chemistry)
Yu Huang, materials science (cross-field)
Richard Kaner, chemistry and materials science (cross-field)
Ali Khademhosseini, bioengineering and radiology (materials science)
Huan Meng, nanomedicine (cross-field)
André Nel, nanomedicine (chemistry)
Stanley Osher, mathematics and engineering (mathematics)
Matteo Pellegrini, computational biology (cross-field)
Tian Xia, nanomedicine (cross-field)
Yang Yang, materials science (materials science, physics, chemistry)
Jeffrey Zink, chemistry and biochemistry (chemistry)
