JOB OPPORTUNITY

Postdoc Position – CNSI Education

Description: The California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) at UCLA seeks motivated applicants for a new STEM research plus education and outreach-based postdoctoral position. This postdoctoral appointment is for STEM PhD graduates who are interested in continuing to do research while also pursuing a “non-traditional” education and outreach-based career.  Such careers could include many types of public education, including non-profit curriculum development positions, university outreach coordinators, and science museum curators.  The goal of this position is to give interested individuals additional training and experience in this area to effectively prepare them for these positions. The selected candidate will be expected to serve a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for a second or third year. The appointee will work with the CNSI Education Director and Faculty Director to help execute CNSI’s annual roster of nanoscience outreach programming, which includes teacher training workshops, public outreach events, and summer programs. Appointees will also assist in grant writing and developing new outreach activities. In addition, they will receive training from UCLA Center X and the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, and make connections to other STEM education providers. The appointee’s time will be either (A) full time or (B) split evenly between the work described above and conducting postdoctoral research with a sponsoring UCLA STEM faculty mentor. Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in a STEM field and have experience in nanotechnology. They will have a strong record of research coupled with a strong record working as a teaching assistant, teacher, and/or volunteering with outreach activities.   Requirements:
  • Curriculum Vitae – Your most recently updated C.V. (1-2 pages)
  • Cover Letter – Include the names of 1-3 UCLA faculty members with whom you are interested in performing research if selecting option (B). (1-page)
  • Statement of Research (1-page)
  • Statement of Teaching, Service, and Contributions to Diversity (1-2 pages)
  • 3 letters of reference
Please submit all of the above materials to rita@cnsi.ucla.edu
