Bluefin Foods creates a better solution to supply the world with cell-cultured seafood and meat
by Nicole Wilkins
Bluefin Foods Inc., which is part of the Magnify incubator at the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA (CNSI) is a cell-cultured seafood company focused on bringing bluefin tuna sushi products to all the sushi lovers in the world.
The startup company was the winner of the Easton Technology Management Center “Cross-Campus Innovation Challenge” at the Anderson School of Management last spring. The competition invites students to solve real-world problems and Bluefin Foods, co-founded by two Anderson MBA students, answered the call. The 2022 competition is now open for applications, please visit the UCLA Easton Technology Management Center website for more information.
“Ultimately, we are creating a better solution to supply the world with meat food products,” said Bluefin Foods co-founder Keith David. Adds Bluefin Foods other co-founder, Taissa Maleh, “We are developing a high-quality and cost-effective process of producing cell-cultured seafood to be a viable alternative to the traditional seafood supply chain.”
Bluefin Foods success is a prime example of the benefits of cross-campus and student research collaboration at UCLA. Additionally, the company makes use of key resources needed to establish a successful commercial enterprise that are available to start-up companies through incubators such as CNSI’s Magnify.
