SAFETY + BUILDING OPERATIONS
Building Hours and Access
CNSI business hours are from 8:00AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday. Laboratories are operational 24 hours every day. Entry outside of regular business hours requires an access card. CNSI’s Technology Centers provide fully integrated R&D infrastructure, professional support and opportunities for collaborative research. Utilization of these facilities is managed through the CNSI Laboratory Management System (CLMS). Existing Users can sign in here. Building Maintenance and Operations
The CNSI Building Manager is responsible for addressing maintenance inquiries and facility modification requests from CNSI users and building occupants. Tenants may arrange maintenance work with UCLA Facilities with prior approval from the Building Manager. Maintenance oversight includes matters related to custodial services, environmental controls and equipment, safety and security systems, grounds keeping, laboratory infrastructure, and other building systems.

Glass Wash Facility, Room 5220 (Autoclave, Glass Wash, Bio-Waste)
The Glass Wash Facility Room is used for autoclave, glass wash, and bio-waste disposal. Please reference the information below for each.
Laboratory users will no longer call for appointments except for bio-waste.
Daily Schedule – The facility doors open Monday through Friday (except holiday closures), 9:45AM – 10:15AM.
- BOT staff will start the autoclave and glass wash cycle at 10:15am. Please make sure you arrive prior to 10:15 am if you have items to autoclave or wash.
- If you missed the scheduled time window. You will need to return on the next business day from 9:45am to 10:15am.
- Please wear personal, protection, equipment (PPE) when handling glassware or bio-waste.
- Make sure all labels/stickers are removed from glassware prior to loading the glass washer, this will prevent clogging the equipment.
- Users will need to load glassware into the glass washer. Keep in mind, not ALL tall/large laboratory glassware fit inside the glass washer chamber.
- If you need assistance, BOT staff will be in the glass wash facility at 10:00am to help prepare the cycle.
- Users will need to fill out the autoclave or glass wash sign-in sheet when dropping off items.
- After completing the autoclave or glass wash cycle. BOT staff will contact users for pick up.
Bio waste disposal will continue phone service only. Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 3pm. Users can take their bio waste to the glass wash facility room for drop off. Contact number: (310) 267-5751

Loading Dock
The loading dock is open from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday with the exception of holidays. The loading dock no longer closes for lunch from 12pm – 1pm.
- The loading dock will not be open to receive deliveries on University holidays.
Disposal Materials in Laboratories/Offices
- Cardboard will need to be flattened and put it outside the hallways. Facilities custodians will pick up.

- Chemical Waste Disposal – EH&S Chemical Waste schedule pick up. Thursday at 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Location: Outside, front of CNSI Loading Dock, street level area. Direction: Take the northside CNSI building. Use the Service Elevator by pressing 1st floor button.

CNSI Building Security and Safety
Please adhere to the following:
- Please keep laboratory/office doors closed, locked and secured.
- Do not prop doors open, especially, when a room is left unattended.
- All Conference Rooms, Meeting Rooms, Presentation Space, Auditorium and Break Rooms:
- After use, keep doors closed or locked/secure.
- If unhoused are observed in the CNSI building. Do not engage, but report to Frank Alcala at (310) 592-4843 immediately or Sonia Luna.
- In the event of an emergency (life threatening/injury) call 911. For all non-emergency issues, contact Campus Police (UCPD) at (310) 825-1491. UCLA campus landline phone: Extension 51491. More information UCPD https://police.ucla.edu/.
- If Laboratory/office odors are detected (no building trouble alarm or fire alarm are set off). Safely EXIT the laboratory or office. Contact Frank Alcala or Sonia Luna. For high alert situations, call 911. Then contact Frank Alcala or Sonia Luna.
- In the event of a laboratory hazardous and dangerous chemical spill: Contact EH&S and Frank Alcala or Sonia Luna.
