Yunfeng Lu, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering and Member of the California NanoSystems Institute, has received the 2020 Nanoscale Science and Engineering Forum Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

The annual senior-level award recognizes “outstanding contributions to the advancement of nanoscale science and engineering in the field of chemical engineering through scholarship, education or service.”

Lu was recognized for “pioneering contribution to the design and synthesis of nanomaterials with controlled structure and composition, for energy storage, energy conversion, and nanomedicine applications.”

Lu’s research focuses on material design and synthesis for applications in energy storage and conversion, including supercapacitors, lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells. His research also applies to drugs delivery and nanomedicine, focusing on the delivery of therapeutics for treatments of acute alcohol intoxication, metabolic diseases, viral infections, cancers, central nervous system disorders and brain injuries. Lu and his colleagues have recently published their research on a potential therapeutic for COVID-19.
