Voucher Program Overview
The mission of the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) is to enable leading-edge nanoscience research, translate discoveries into knowledge-driven commercial enterprises, and educate the next generation of scientists and engineers.
The CNSI Technology Centers support this mission by providing fully integrated R&D infrastructure, professional support, and collaborative research opportunities in the fabrication, characterization and screening of nanomaterials, systems, and devices. These facilities are available to students, postdocs, staff, faculty and industrial scientists 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
To foster and promote scientific discovery and collaboration, the CNSI is launching a Technology Center voucher program to alleviate the cost of equipment use and laboratory services for new, exploratory research initiatives.
Under the CNSI program, awardees can use vouchers to cover the cost of Technology Centers use on weekends and during off-hours.
Voucher applications will be considered based on a few simple criteria:
-
- Use case – Does the proposal introduce new users or projects to the Technology Centers and/or support early-stage faculty/researchers?
- Feasibility – Is the proposed work technically feasible based on current capabilities in the Technology Centers?
- Follow-on impacts – Does the proposed work support proof of concept studies or collection of preliminary data that can be used to secure funding in the future?
