CNSI Associate Director Heather Maynard among Guggenheim Fellowships awarded to 5 UCLA faculty members

Heather D. Maynard, a renowned polymer chemist and associate director of the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) at UCLA. is one of five UCLA faculty selected to receive 2026 Guggenheim Fellowships, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation announced this week.
The new fellows are part of the 101st class of 223 awarded scholars, scientists and creative professionals from the U.S. and Canada chosen from a pool of more than 5,000 applicants.
Maynard is joined by Richard Hasen, Law, Jamie Kreiner, Medieval & Early Modern Studies, Sean Metzger, Theatre Arts & Performance Studies, Kay Kyurim Rhie, Music Composition, as fellows from UCLA. Each will receive a no-strings-attached monetary stipend to independently pursue work and research of their choice.
“Our new class of Guggenheim Fellows is representative of the world’s best thinkers, innovators, and creators in art, science, and scholarship,” said Edward Hirsch, award-winning poet and President of the Guggenheim Foundation. “As the Foundation enters its second century and looks to the future, I feel confident that this new class of 223 individuals will do bold and inspiring work, undaunted by the challenges ahead.
